Syrup

Directions

  1. Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line an 8x8 pan with lightly greased foil.

  2. Step 2
In a medium bowl mix together the apple butter, walnuts, and raisins.

  3. Step 3
Roll-out the cold but thawed dough into a 12x12 square. Cut into four 6-inch squares.

  4. Step 4
Place one apple in the middle of one square of dough. Fill the center with the nut mixture.

  5. Step 5
Bring up the corners of the dough to meet in the center, covering the apple. Pinch edges to seal. Place in the pan.

  6. Step 6
Repeat with the remaining ingredients. If at any time the dough gets too warm, refrigerate until cold again

  7. Step 7
Bake for 30 minutes, while preparing the syrup. (see step 10)

  8. Step 8
Pour syrup over the apples, and return to the oven to bake for another 15-20 minutes until crust is golden brown and baked.

  9. Step 9
Remove from the pan, and serve dumplings warm or at room temperature.

  10. Step 10
Syrup: In a medium saucepan, bring the water, apple butter, and brown sugar to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes, whisking often. Remove from heat.

Ice cream, with a dollop of apple butter on top, goes great with these apple dumplings.
