Onion Grilled Cheese Sliders

Musselman’s Apple Butter creates delicious caramelized onions, taking boring grilled cheese to the next level.

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, sliced thin
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup MUSSELMAN’S® Apple Butter
  • 24 Slider buns, about 2 1/2 inches in diameter
  • 12 ounces cheese, your choice of flavor, cut into slices for buns
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard


  1. Step 1
    Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat oven to 350° F.

  2. Step 2
    Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and sauté, until caramelized.

  3. Step 3
    Stir in thyme, a generous sprinkling of salt and pepper, and the apple butter. Cook to heat through.

  4. Step 4
    Set bun bottoms and tops on a sheet pan (cut side up). Bake 5 minutes just to toast the buns slightly.

  5. Step 5
    Top each bottom bun with a slice of cheese, then a Tablespoon of the cooked onion.

    Spread each bun top with a teaspoon of mustard and cap each sandwich.

  7. Step 7
    Bake sliders until cheese melts, 5 to 7 minutes. Serve.
